2 Weeks in London & Portugal (WITH MY MOM!)
London Lisbon Sintra Santiago De Cachem Setubal Winery
Yep! My mom and I ventured off onto a two week tour of London and Portugal together this past month. I know, you all love my zany mother... and think this sounds amazing. BUT I WAS NERVOUS!
My mom and I are so similar but also have very different travel styles. She is high energy, down-to-the-hour organized and adores group walking tours and museums. On the other hand, I prefer to plan one "big" activity per day, focus on food and shopping, and always make sure to schedule a nap before dinner. (It IS vacation, after all!)
Even though I had my hesitations, I LET HER PLAN THE WHOLE THING! I have been really stretched for time lately and honestly-- she's an amazing travel planner. All I told her was "I like food, restaurants, shopping, farmer's markets, flea markets, the ocean, and wine." And she. fucking. delivered. I was/ AM truly blessed.
Because so many friends asked for our trip details, here they are-- stop by stop, organized with our highs, lows, and things we want to do next time!
Stop 1: London Town
I absolutely loved London! The people are lovely, the city is clean and organized, and there is no shortage of things to do.
- We were blessed with amazing weather. We walked everywhere with light jackets and no rain. Our dates were October 1-5.
- We recommend the hotel we stayed at in South Kensington. The Ampersand Hotel was in a beautiful neighborhood, a block from the "tube" and even served a gluten-free tea-time.
I missed out on having an AMAZING fish and chip. While the other food we had at The Ivy Club was good, my fish and chips dinner was just ho-hum. Next time I'll head to a proper fish & chip shop and skip this formal dinner altogether.
